Tekgem in 2021

Tekgem in 2021 blog post

It’s been another very busy and exciting year here at Tekgem.

2021 has thrown a lot of challenges at us, more lockdowns, vaccines, chip shortages, delayed imports, but as a team we have overcome them and are stronger as a result.

Our team has continued to grow, seeing us add six new full-time members of staff. Back in January Bartosz Zacharkiewicz Graduate Software Engineer, Garry Fairhurst Operations & Projects Manager, then in June Claire Hill Graduate Network Security Engineer and Lewis Roe Apprentice Network Security Engineer. In July Oliver Hardiment joined the team as a Graduate Software Engineer, and finally in November Mark McKenna joined as an Infrastructure Security Engineer.

In early summer we achieved the Operational Technology Fortinet Partner Specialisation certification and became one of the first 5 companies in the world to have done so.

We have continued to support our customers in their OT journey and have completed:

Reviewing more than 100 assets across 18 sites.

We have seen 4 companies move forward in improving their OT cyber security posture and securing their networks, something which we are proud to be part of.

We have also provided approximately 700 days of engineering support across all our customers for ongoing cyber maintenance. This has led to us assisting in the closure of a significant number of HSE actions relating to OG-0086.

Our Infrastructure Security Engineer Sam Longstaff won NEPIC’s Apprentice of the Year award back in April, and Liam Sharpe has earned promotion to Lead Cyber Security Engineer supporting the team in their technical excellence.

The team has continued to expand its knowledge again and have added a raft of new qualifications and learning across the team. Notably Fortinet’s NSE7, CompTIA CYSA+, and some Palo Alto PCNSA certification, our last apprentice completed their apprenticeship with a distinction keeping up our 100% record.

The company once again passed its ISO27001 audit for 2021 the Information Security Management Systems standard ensures the company keeps information assets safe and secure. Companies that obtain ISO/IEC 27001 certification validate that the security of financial information, intellectual property, employee details, assets or information entrusted from third parties is being successfully managed and continually improved according to best practice approaches and frameworks.

We have been busy overhauling our branding to make it more consistent across our products and services and now have digital brochures available for them all, along with a brand-new website which is ready to launch this December.

Our software team have worked tirelessly throughout the year to bring life to our new Real Time Cyber Security Management Platform SENTINEL which we launched at the recent NEPIC Digitalisation and Cyber Security conference in November, where our Managing Director Ian Gemski delivered a keynote on the features and benefits of the platform. It was very well received and brought a lot of interest from the attending delegates.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our staff, customers, suppliers and partners for an incredible 2021. Please stay safe over the festive period and look out for each other.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all at Tekgem.
